Stargazing: Songbird - Nakajima Megumi

It's been a bit of a tough day. I've been a little bit numb, both mentally and physically. I'm more than grateful that today's song is one that I know has worked in putting me in a good mood.

It's no doubt that Macross Frontier had an incredible soundtrack. The whole concept of "space fights meets songstresses" left me speechless, and their choice to feature both May'n and Nakajima Megumi as the lead idols...it's just magic. They even got Sakamoto Maya to perform the very memorable opening theme, 'Triangler'. So without doubt, you knew the quality invested in this series from the get-go.

However, I adore this show even more because they kept investing specifically into Christmas-themed music. 'Cosmic Cuune' is an entire album filled with unforgettable holiday tunes, and today's song is one of my favourites. Nakajima Megumi puts her heart and soul into this beautiful piece that is just brimming with energy and hope. But at the same time, there's an air of sadness to it, and I think the amalgamation of those two ends of the spectrum is what makes this song so colourful.

Looking back at this song, it really does make me sad that Nakajima Megumi took her walk away from performing music. To me at least, she was a vibrant performer. She was one of the main faces of the entire Rinne no Lagrange soundtrack, gave life to the sad story of Kobato and hey, even her solo work was astounding. Songs like 'Songbird' make me hopeful that she will one day return to the stage to kick ass and bring us more of what she does best.
